#Ligue1: Malian midfielder banned for LGBTQ stance

Date:

Malian midfielder, Mohamed Camara has been suspended by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) for covering up an anti-homophobia badge on his shirt.

Camara, 24, on Monaco’s final home game in Ligue 1, covered up an anti-homophobia message on his shirt sleeve and refused to partake in a photograph session.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), after hearing from the player, opted to impose a ban on him after he decided to adhere to his religious beliefs.

“After hearing the player Mohamed CAMARA and taking note of his refusal during the session to carry out one or more awareness-raising actions in the fight against homophobia, the Commission decides to impose a firm suspension of four matches on him,” the statement read.

The Monaco star will be in the squad for Mali when they face Ghana in Bamako on June 7.
