I’m still haunted by my criminal past – Akuapem Poloo

Date:

Socialite Akuapem Poloo has expressed worry about how her son will take the news of her arrest over her viral nude photos she took four years ago with the boy and posted online.

According to her, she regretted the act and wished she could turn back the hands of time to erase those memories in order for it not to affect her son in the future.

Speaking in a media interview, Akuapem Poloo said the act continued to haunt her to date and was remorseful.

“Since childhood, till I grew up, my only regret is the picture I took with my son. Aside from that, I have no regrets. The memory is seriously haunting me,” she cried.

Akuapem Poloo noted that she needed to prepare herself adequately to answer questions that her son would grow to ask concerning her criminal past.

“I’m thinking about my son; he’ll grow up. As he is growing, he’s asking a lot of questions already. As a single mother, I need to prepare myself for how I’ll answer him for him to understand the situation of how his nakedness and his standing in front of me as if he’s looking at mommy’s nakedness will sound in his mind. That is my only regret,” she added.

In July 2020, the actress posted a naked photo of herself and her son while she squatted in front of her son to mark her son’s seventh birthday.

Her actions sparked public concern and were heavily criticized; consequently, the Accra High Court sentenced her to three months in prison in April 2021 as a punitive measure to deter others from replicating the act.

Akuapem Poloo pleaded guilty to three charges: publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence in ways that undermine the privacy and integrity of another person, and engaging in domestic violence that could spoil the dignity of another human being.

She appealed the jail sentence on Monday, April 19, 2021, at the Accra High Court Criminal Court 2 Division.

After spending two days in prison, Akuapem Poloo met the bail conditions by paying the sum of Gh¢80,000 with three sureties and depositing her passport at the court’s registry.

She was then released from prison on bail pending an appeal of her 90-day jail term.

The Appeals Court in December 2021 imposed a GHC12,000 fine on the actress and reversed her 90-day jail term.
