Ghana’s Black Starlets delivered a commanding performance, securing a convincing 5-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire in their opening campaign in the 2024 WAFU B U17 Championship on Wednesday night.
Under the guidance of head coach Laryea Kingston, the Starlets showcased their superiority on the field, much to the delight of the home crowd gathered at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
The action-packed encounter saw Joseph Larbi emerging as a key player for Ghana, as he netted two crucial goals. Larbi’s equalizer in the 27th minute, followed by a well-executed strike before halftime, propelled the Black Starlets into a comfortable lead going into the break.
Despite Côte d’Ivoire’s valiant efforts to stage a comeback in the second half, Ghana maintained their dominance. Although the Ivorians managed to score a consolation goal, Ghana’s relentless attack, spearheaded by Godfred Sarpong, Herve Gbafa, and Mark Kagawa Mensah, ensured a resounding victory for the Black Starlets at the final whistle.
With their confidence soaring after this impressive win, Ghana’s Starlets are now gearing up for their next challenge as they prepare to face Benin in their upcoming group match.
