#WAFUZoneB: Laryea Kingston targets CAF U-17 spot

Date:

Head coach of the national U-17 team of Ghana, Laryea Kingston, has stated his team’s topmost target is to qualify for the 2025 CAF African U-17 competition ahead of the start of the 2024 WAFU B tournament in Accra on Wednesday, May 15.

Since 2017, Ghana has failed to qualify for the CAF African U-17 competitions, an unwanted record for the two-time FIFA World U-17 winners.

However, this year’s WAFU B tournament presents the Black Starlets of Ghana with the perfect chance of bringing glory to the proud football-loving nation.

Ahead of Wednesday’s kickoff, Laryea Kingston highlighted the importance of the competition in an interview with the GFA media.

“The WAFU tournament is important to me and the entire nation because since 2017 we have not qualified to that major tournament before and for us as a technical team, that’s our topmost priority since we were appointed.”

Ghana and the current holders of the competition, Nigeria, are considered extreme favorites for the competition, as the teams that finish first and second will qualify for the 2025 CAF African U-17 competition.
