Counselor and emotional coach, James Akwesi Addison, has cautioned parents to be careful with their choices of words when communicating with their children.
According to James Akwesi Addison, verbal abuse of words has a negative effect on children’s psychological abilities and their academic performances.
“Do not compute your social issues into the minds of your children,” he shared on the Max Morning Show.
He added that unpleasant words from a parent to a child would lower his or her self-esteem and self-confidence among their peers.
“It is crucial for parents to be mindful of their language and show love and care towards their children…parents understand that your children also have emotions,“ James Akwesi added.
A few students from a school spoke to Max TV, expressing their grievance about how their parents’ verbal abusive words affect them:
Student 1: I don’t like it when someone falsely accuses me; it makes me feel like they are not my parents.
Student 2: My parents shout at me anytime they like, whether I am correct or wrong.
Student 3: My mom’s friends think I am a disrespectful boy because my mom disgraces me in front of them.
According to a teacher at the school, he advised that parents should show love and care towards their children to make their work easier.
