#BlackStars: Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor says SORRY to Gyan

Date:

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency, rendered an apology to former captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, for saying that he missed the penalty intentionally at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa to prevent the party that was in power (NDC) from receiving any recognition.

Dafeamekpor wasn’t too happy about the former black star joining the New Patriotic Party.

The MP made these remarks after the former Sunderland’s striker’s inclusion in the 2024 manifesto as the head of the sub-committee of youth and sports in the NPP campaign structure went viral.

“There is everything wrong with that. When you are a national figure like that, you have to remain non-partisan,” Dafeamekpor said.

He stated that Gyan missed the penalty on purpose simply because the party (NDC) was in power then.

“Maybe he wants an autograph. Don’t worry. I will sign one for him soon,” Gyan replies on ‘X’.

Dafeamekpor apologized in a post on Saturday, March 2, 2024, to the former captain.

“The Black Stars and other national teams have iconically rallied and carried our passions, dreams, and aspirations for glory to the world. Upon reflection and calls from people like Kenpong, I retract and unreservedly apologize to Asamoah Gyan for my comments.”
