Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart to retire at end of season

Date:

Joe Hart, the former Manchester City and England goalkeeper, has announced his retirement at the end of the season.

At 37, when his three-year contract with Celtic expires, he reflects on a career that saw him earn 75 caps for England and make 348 appearances for Manchester City, clinching two Premier League titles.

Hart, who played a pivotal role in Celtic’s success under manager Ange Postecoglou, expressed his determination to finish strong, vowing to “smash through the finishing line” with the club.

Despite trailing rival Rangers by two points in the Premiership, Hart assured Celtic fans of his commitment to the team’s ongoing battle for success.

He emphasized his mental clarity in making the decision to retire, ensuring that he leaves the game on his terms rather than being forced out by physical decline.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers commended Hart for his outstanding career, acknowledging his contributions not only to Celtic but also to the broader football community. Rodgers highlighted Hart’s professionalism and character, describing him as a “tremendous man” to work with.

As Hart prepares to conclude his playing career, he leaves behind a legacy marked by achievements both on the domestic and international stage, earning the respect and admiration of fans and colleagues alike.
