#MTNFaCup: We can ensure the longevity of the big teams in the competition – Wilson Arthur

Date:

Wilson Arthur, Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, revealed there have been suggestions to ensure the big teams stay longer in the competition by avoiding each other early on.

There have been concerns raised about the attractiveness of the 2023–24 MTN FA Cup season following the early knockouts of the big teams in the Ghana Premier League, with the most recent being Kumasi Asante Kotoko, after they lost 2-0 away to Karela United in Tamale.

“We could put them [the big teams] in some special pots so that they get smaller teams to play against. Others also suggested we should let them travel because it will be festive wherever they go. They can beat the smaller teams, but if you give them teams like Karela, then they can struggle [like Kotoko],” Wilson Arthur said in an interview with max.com.gh.

The Chairman, however, assured that there are measures being put in place to ensure interests are not lost, as he revealed that “women and children” attending match venues will watch for free.

The teams through to the quarterfinals of the competition are Karela United, defending champions Dreams FC, Nsoatreman FC, Skyy FC, Bechem United, Legon Cities, Bofoakwa Tano, and Soccer Intellectuals.
