#GhanaAthletics: Ghana gains nothing from football – Bawa Fuseini

Date:

The President of Ghana Athletics, Bawa Fuseini, has called for the same investment in Ghana’s Athletics as football receives.

Vice President of Ghana Athletics, Osei Asibey, issued a challenge to the Ghanaian government in December 2023, requesting a $1 million investment to put the nation in a position to compete for Olympic medals in Paris in 2024.

Speaking in an interview with max.com.gh, Bawa Fuseini echoed his deputy’s assertion by joking about Ghana’s lack of success in football since 1982.

“Ghana hasn’t had any success in football since 1982, but look at the kind of amount that is pumped into football.”

He continued by insisting athletics has chalked up a lot of success for the country in recent times, citing the Commonwealth Games in particular.

“Athletics has brought glory to Ghana. Look at the Commonwealth Games. How many medals didn’t we win? For the last 43 years, the last time Ghana won 200-meter medal in a Commonwealth game was in 1975. Ghana has never been to the women’s high jump final,” he said.
