FIFA BEST AWARDS: Lionel Messi wins third best male player award

Date:

Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, received the men’s player of the year award at the Fifa Best Awards in London, while Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, took home the men’s coach title.

Messi of Inter Miami beat Erling Haaland of City to the award, while Kylian Mbappe of Paris St-Germain finished third.

Ederson of City won the best goalkeeper award ahead of Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid and Yassine Bounou of Al Hilal.

In the 2022–2023 season, City won the FA Cup, the Premier League, and the Champions League.

The 36-year-old Argentine started 2023 with Paris St-Germain and left in June to join Inter Miami of Major League Soccer (MLS).

After taking home the title in 2019 and 2022, he won the best men’s player award for the third time since the awards’ inception in 2016.
