Bayer Leverkusen’s Nigerian top striker, Victor Boniface, will miss the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast after suffering a groin injury in training.
The 23-year-old missed the Super Eagles’ friendlies against Al Gharib and Guinea due to the injury, leaving Victor Osimhen and Real Soceidad’s Umar Sadiq as the only fit strikers for Nigeria.
He will therefore not travel to Cote d’Ivoire for the tournament, with Terem Moffi drafted in to replace him, subject to approval from OGC Nice.
Nigeria will take on Equatorial Guinea in their opening fixture of the 2023 AFCON on Sunday, January 14, 2023.
