2023 CAF CC: We didn’t prioritize the competition – APC coach

Date:

Carlos Sambaka, the head coach of Academica do Lobito, revealed that his team prioritized the Girabola over the CAF Confederation Cup this season.

On Wednesday, during match day four of the 2023–24 CAF Confederation Cup, Dreams FC, the winners of Ghana’s FA Cup, soundly defeated Sambaka’s boys, 4-0, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

After only five of the eight games this season, Academica sits sixth on the Girabola standings with ten points.

“First of all, we are new to this competition and realized we needed to prioritize the Angolan league because we had no chance of qualifying,” he said after the game.

He also thought that the pressure of the competition would be too much for his extremely youthful side.

“70 percent of the squad are very young. Our goalkeeper is only 19 and just played his second match,” he added.
