2023 Africa Basketball Festival Launched

Date:

The 2023 Africa Basketball Festival has officially been launched and is expected to kick off from December 15 to December 17.

This year’s edition will witness eight teams vying for supremacy in the three-day event.

Teams from the UK, Liberia, Togo, and an additional nation yet to be announced will be joining the four participating countries from last year’s edition—France, the USA, Ghana, and Nigeria.

Similar to the previous edition, the Africa Basketball Festival promises thrilling games, musical performances, and a showcase of fashion trends. Yaw Sakyi Afari, the project lead of the Africa Basketball Festival, expressed optimism about the event’s growth during a media briefing following the launch.

He emphasized that this year’s expansion to eight participating countries reflects the festival’s progress.

“Last year, we had an impressive display of talent, music, and art from four countries. This time, with eight nations, we aim to create an even more memorable experience for everyone,” Afari stated. Encouraging fans to secure tickets for what he dubbed a “lifetime experience,” he asserted that this year’s festival would surpass the excitement of the previous edition.

As part of this year’s competition, the University of Ghana will lock horns with Accra Technical University to give fans a proper treat of world-class basketball.

The first day of the event will see the countries arrive and have a curtain raiser, which will see a women’s basketball game and then break bread.

The second day will see most of the games being played, with both men and women competing at the highest level.

The final day will have an e-sports competition before the University of Ghana takes on Accra Technical University.

The 2023 Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) is orchestrated by RITE Sports in collaboration with partners Beyond The Return Office and the Ghana Basketball Association.
