2023 CAF WCL: Ampem Darkoa fall to SC Casablanca in dramatic shootout

Date:

Ampem Darkoa Ladies has lost the chance to qualify for the final of the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League after losing 3-2 on penalties to SC Casablanca following a 2-2 scoreline in regular time.

Both teams went into the game looking to make history by reaching the final of their debut season in the competition.

Ghana’s champions took the lead just six minutes into the second semi-final of the day. Comfort Yeboah expertly converted a penalty after Casablanca’s right-back handled the ball in the box.

Yeboah would go on to score again, this time an own goal for her opponents to restore parity in the 28th minute of the game.

However, Jennifer Owusua’s long-range strike gave Ampem Darkoa the lead once again in the 39th minute.

The Moroccans returned from recess determined to get an equalizer as they applied pressure on the Ghanaians. It finally paid off as the center referee awarded a penalty for Casablanca, which Agueissa Diarra stepped forward to score and bring her side level once more to send the game into a penalty shoot-out.

The Moroccans emerged 3-2 winners in a dramatic shootout to set up a tie against Mamelodi Sundowns in the final on Sunday, while the Ghanaians are set to battle it out for the bronze medal against AS Far.
