Ibrahim Tanko has made some curious remarks on the talent of the current Black Meteors team after being eliminated from the TotalEnergies CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco following a 1-1 tie with Guinea at the Grand Stade of Tangier.
“We are not the best in this tournament when it comes to quality,” said the coach of the Black Meteors, Ibrahim Tanko. A section of Ghanaians may disagree with the comments of the coach looking at the pedigree of a number of the invited players, such as Ernest Nuamah, Emmanuel Yeboah, and Fatawu Issahaku, among others.
He maintained that, despite the challenges with the kind of talent in the country’s hands, the FA has been working diligently to enhance Ghanaian football as a whole: “We are working hard as a football country. The FA is trying to change something.”
He has warned that Ghana needs a catching up to do when it comes to the international stage, “We have to do more. When you look at Egypt (2019) and today, You could see that we need to catch up otherwise it will be too late.”
Ghana’s failure to qualify for the Olympics continues since their last outing in Athens 2004 after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Guinea.
