AFCON 23 Q: Three Black Stars players to join U-23 team

Date:

Kamaldeen Sulemana, Ernest Nuamah, and Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer are all expected to join the camp of the Ghana U-23 national team after the Black Stars game against Madagascar in the 2024 AFCON qualifiers in Antananarivo.

The three Ghanaian attackers, all under the age of twenty-three, are expected to join their fellow Meteors colleagues in Egypt as they make preparations for the upcoming U-23 AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Sulemana (21), Nuamah (19), and Königsdörffer (21), all earned call-ups to play for the Black Stars in their upcoming AFCON qualifier against Madagascar on Sunday, June 18, but are expected to join the U-23 side who are currently in North Africa preparing for the U-23 AFCON tournament and also aiming to seal qualification to the 2024 Olympic games in Paris.

Head coach for the Black Meteors, Ibrahim Tanko, recently revealed that the team’s utmost priority is to qualify for the 2024 Olympic games after having failed to qualify for the games since 2004, further stating the importance of having several foreign-based U-23 players in the team to help strengthen the team.

Several Ghanaian U-23 foreign-based players have been called into the team for the tournament, with Kamaldeen Sulemana (Southampton), Ernest Nuamah (FC Nordsjaelland), and Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer (Hamburger SV), the latest additions confirmed by the Ghana Football Association.

The three players are expected to join the team on Monday, June 19, as they engage in friendly games before the commencement of the tournament in Morocco on June 24.
