At one point during his tenure at Newcastle United, Christian Atsu was the crowd’s favorite, and they even created a chant in his honor.
Atsu played at Newcastle for four seasons, the most of any club in his career, and had his best season in the 2016–17 season while the team was competing in the title.
He contributed to 8 goals, making him one of the greatest players that helped the squad qualify for the Premier League (5 goals, 3 assists). His score made it easier for the squad to win the championship.
The supporters created a chant for him because they could not get enough of him because he was so amazing and lightning swift down the flank.
“Oh Christian Atsu,
He is so wonderful,
When he scores a goal,
Oh it’s beautiful,
Magical.
When he runs down the wing he’s fast as lightning,…”
For the Magpies, Christian Atsu made 121 appearances and contributed to 18 goals ( 8 goals, 10 assists).
On February 18, 2023, he passed suddenly when his lifeless body was found in Turkey’s earthquake debris.
In remembrance of Christian Atsu, Newcastle United observed a moment of silence prior to their match against Liverpool on February 18, 2023, at Saint James Park.
Marie-Claire Rupio, Atsu’s wife, and his three children were all in attendance at the stadium to see the game.
