Algeria through to knockout stage of CHAN 2022 after beating Ethiopia

Date:

Algeria has advanced to the knockout round of the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) competition in 2022.

In the second Group A encounter of the competition on Tuesday night, the host nation overcame Ethiopia by a goal to zero, securing them advancement to the next round.

In today’s game, Algeria dominated play in the first half but was unable to score due to a tenacious effort from the opposition.

However, the hosts made enough progress and scored enough goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to take control of the game.

Aimen Mahious, the match-winner from last Friday’s first group game against Libya, scored his second goal of the competition in the 52nd minute to secure Algeria’s slender 1-0 victory over Ethiopia.

With the victory, Algeria improved to six points in Group A and advanced to the CHAN202 quarterfinal round.
