FIFA boss Gianni Infantino: Qatar World Cup ticket sales near three million

Date:

Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, and the event’s organizers announced on Monday that ticket sales for the soccer World Cup are getting close to three million ahead of the tournament’s start in Qatar on November 20.

According to World Cup Chief Operating Officer Colin Smith, the top three ticket-buying nations out of the 2.89 million tickets sold are Qatar, the US, and Saudi Arabia.

Infantino announced that 240 000 hospitality packages had been sold for the month-long tournament, the first to be staged in a Middle Eastern nation, while speaking to the conference via recorded video.

The smallest nation to ever hosted soccer’s premier event, Qatar, is getting ready to welcome an anticipated 1.2 million tourists during the World Cup.

Many fans are expected to stay in surrounding countries like the tourist hub of the United Arab Emirates and fly into Doha for games due to the scarcity of lodgings in Qatar.

Yasir Al Jamal, the director general of the Qatari World Cup organizing committee, announced during a press conference that 2 million room nights had been booked and that 30 000 more rooms had been added to accommodate last-minute ticket purchases.

The World Cup authorities, soccer teams, and their support staff will occupy several hotel rooms in Doha.

According to Smith, Japan will be the first team to arrive for the competition on November 7.
