Chris Hughton : Ghanaians don’t care about how we will qualify from our World Cup group

Date:

Technical advisor for the Black Stars, Chris Hughton, has said that rather than the team’s play, Ghanaians are more emotionally invested in the Black Stars’ ability to advance from their World Cup group.

In Group H of the 2022 World Cup, Ghana will compete against South Korea, Uruguay, and Portugal.

Hughton claimed to Super Sports that Ghanaians are only interested in whether their side would go past the group stage, with little interest in the technical team’s ability to pull it done.

“…Other things that happened in the past are very much in the past. And all our emotions and the emotions of the supporters are very much fixed on can we make it through the group stage of the world cup and make progress. And they won’t care how we do it,” he said during an interview with Super Sports.

It would be fantastic to advance from the group stage while playing flashy football, the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager continued, but he thinks the fans would rather win the game.

“It will be wonderful to be able to do it, playing free-flowing football, entertaining football. But they won’t care as the supporters want to see us qualify from the group stage, do well, and we are going to do probably the best we can.”

Ghana used the away goal rule to get into the tournament, which will be held in Qatar in November 2022.

After the first leg in Kumasi finished scoreless, Black Stars were able to secure a scoring draw in Abuja.

At the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakra, the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign will get under way against Portugal on November 24, continue against South Korea on November 28, and end against Uruguay on December 2.
