The Deluxy Professional Boxing League gathers a large attendance on Fight Night 5

Date:

Fight Night 5 of the DE-LUXY Professional Boxing League, which took place at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra on Saturday night, was unusual in that Samuel Lamptey of Sonia Gym came out on top after defeating Frank Oppong of The Gym in a Super-featherweight bout to keep Sonia’s unbeaten record going.

Loren saved the best for last, battering his stubborn opponent over six rounds at Fight Night 5, which drew another strong crowd and featured some very interesting bouts. He earned a 32-inch TCL LED TV for being the best boxer of the night.

The Super-featherweight title was won by Samuel Lamptey in a six-round battle. The judges scored the fight 60-54, 59-55, and 59-55, giving Lamptey a unanimous points victory.

Sonia Gym currently has 15 points from five wins in as many fights, putting them in first place in the 12-club league. They have a 13-point lead against Fit Square Gym, who has four victories and a draw in five fights. In a Super-featherweight bout last Saturday, Japhet Loren kept Fit Square in contention for the title by defeating Elvis Mensah of Akotoku Academy on points (60-54, 60-54, 60-54).

In other bouts, Michael Abban of Black Panthers Gym defeated Ishmael Tackie of Seconds Out Gym in the fourth round by TKO, while Michael Offei Dodoo of Attoh Quarshie Gym defeated Kweku Ajato of Sea View Gym in the first round by TKO, much to the annoyance of the boxer who felt he could fight on even though his performance was clumsy in 2.17 minutes of action.

In a six-round Super-featherweight bout, Solomon Asante of the Charles Quartey Boxing (C.B.Q.) Foundation defeated Solomon Nettey of Wisdom Gym on points.

Some of the more intriguing battles were juveniles, which has become a hallmark of the championship, including a female bout between Najat Lokko and Magritte Oyo Owoo.

Wisdom Gym is at the bottom of the league table with nil points after five Fight Nights, much like 11th-placed The Gym, which has no points after losing all five fights.

C.B.Q. Foundation is in third place with 12 points, followed by Attoh Quarshie (10 points), Panix Gym (nine points), Black Panther (nine points), Sea View (nine points), Palm Springs (four points), Akotoku Academy (four points), and Seconds Out (three points).

The night also went down with musician Nero X, who gave the crowd pure vibes on the frenzy night. He shook the dome of the Bukom Boxing Arena with a great performance.

Musician Wisa Greid also gave a vibely performance that night, which will go down in  memory lane.
