The Black Stars of Ghana were stunned at home by the Palancas Negras of Angola in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
This is the first time in decades that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium has witnessed the Black Stars succumbing to defeat.
Felício Mendes João Milson’s stoppage time strike handed Angola joint top spot of Group F with former Ghana coach, Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan, after Rayo Vallecano defender Abdul Mumin failed to clear the ball thanks to the terrible pitch as he struggled to find his footing in the six-yard area.
Otto Addo men were shut out by the impressive goalkeeper of Angola, Adilson Cipriano da Cruz, who goes by the nickname Neblú, coupled by a number of superb defensive displays by the Angolans.
Next for Ghana is a trip to Morocco to take on Niger in the second qualifying match on Monday, September 9, 2024.
