According to the head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, he puts together the best players for the team rather than choosing more players from the local leagues.
Otto Addo had come under a bit of scrutiny following the announcement of the Black Stars squad for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
Only one player from Ghana’s top division, Asante Kotoko’s Frederick Asare, was named in the squad, resulting in Ghanaian football fans questioning the quality of the locally based players.
In an exclusive interview with Max TV’s Nana Darkwah Gyasi in Tarkwa before the Champion of Champions’ match, Otto Addo implied he would name more local players if he found them as good as the foreign based-stars.
“I am trying to get the best players the country has together to build a unit to qualify for the next upcoming task. For me, it’s not about local and non-local; it’s about finding the best players, but if we can find good players, and that’s why I said before, I want to really watch more local live matches as possible if I can find more players,” he said.
