2022 Kirin Cup: 9-man Ghana Black Stars beat La Roja of Chile 3-1 on penalties

Date:

The goalkeeper Manaf Nurudeen was the hero as the nine-man Black Stars defeated Chile’s La Roja on penalties to win third place in the Kirin Cup in 2022.

FC Eupen’s goalkeeper saved two penalties to give the Black Stars a rare 3-1 penalty shootout victory, allowing them to leave Japan with some honor.

Despite Ghana’s use of nine players for much of the second half, the game ended with neither team scoring a goal after ninety minutes plus added time.

The Black Stars performed admirably against Chile today, creating several good opportunities, notably in the first half and early part of the second half.

Otto Addo’s team came close to scoring in the first half, moving the ball around quickly and well but failing to find the net.

Throughout regulation time, Ghana’s top player was Mohammed Kudus, an Ajax midfielder who improved his ball distribution and helped the side shift fluidly from defense to attack.

Despite Ghana’s dominance, the first half ended with no goals.

In the second half, Kudus, Tetteh, and Afena-Gyan maintained Ghana’s dominance, striving for a lead that never occurred.

Benjamin Tetteh hit the crossbar twice, the first with a strong shot from within the box and the second with a head flip from a corner by Andre Ayew.

The game’s momentum altered after defender Alidu Seidu was sent off in the 67th minute. Despite the fact that Ghana held their own, Mubarak Wakaso was sent off in the 78th minute for dissent, and Chile gained control.

The Black Stars fought back valiantly to win the game, aided by a superb performance from goalkeeper Manaf Nurudeen.

In penalty shootouts, Ghana defeated Chile 3-1, with goalkeeper Manaf Nurudeen making two great saves.

Ghana’s goals came from Jordan Ayew, Fatawu Issahaku, and Mohammed Kudus.
