Sports journalist dies in accident on Nkawkaw-New Abirem road

Date:

A sports journalist in the Eastern Region, Adam Shaibu of Obourba FM, has been reported dead after the vehicle he was traveling in got involved in an accident on Sunday, June 27, 2021, on the Nkawkaw-New Abirem road.

Baba Kankani, as he is affectionately called, was in the company of three others who were returning to Nkawkaw after covering a division 2 football match between Okwawu City and Okwahu United at Yayaso near New Abirem.

The taxi in which they were traveling somersaulted several times after the driver lost control of the wheels.

The sudden demise of Baba Kankani has shocked the Eastern Regional media fraternity who are questioning the state of the Nkawkaw – New Abirem road which has been under construction for several years by successive governments.

The police have begun investigations into the cause of the accident.

Three of the occupants of the car, including the taxi driver who is in critical condition, are receiving treatment at the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital.

This adds to the numerous accidents that have occurred already this year, and taken many lives, while leaving several others injured.
