Teenage sensation Nadjo sends Super Falcons packing

Date:

Ten-time champions of Women’s football in Africa, Nigeria, have been knocked out of the 2026 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria faced the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in a fierce quarterfinal tie.

The two strong sides were separated by a sensational first-half long range free-kick strike by the 19-year-old Mavis Nadjo.

Nigeria, the soon-to-be dethroned champions huffed and puffed since going behind in the game, but the Cameroonians remained resolute.

Cameroon will take on tournament favorites and host, the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in the semifinals of the competition.

They [Cameroon] join Morocco and Algeria to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. A win for either Ghana or Malawi in the last quarterfinal fixture will complete Africa’s set.
