Police caution: No live ammunition during Ga festivities

Date:

The Accra Regional Police Command has issued a safety alert ahead of the official lifting of the ban on drumming and noise-making today, Thursday, June 12, at Gbese, Blohum, and Abola within the Ga State.

While musketry is traditionally fired during the ceremony, the Police have observed that some participants—especially youths—now use live ammunition instead of gunpowder or blanks.

In a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the Command urged all celebrants to strictly avoid using live rounds, warning that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.

The Police are working closely with traditional leaders, including the Gbese Mantse, and event organisers to ensure a peaceful celebration.

They also urged the public to follow safety guidelines, cooperate with officers, and report suspicious activity via emergency numbers 18555 or 112.

The Command extended best wishes to the Ga people as they observe this important cultural event.
