Pape Gueye announces break from Senegal national team

Date:

Pape Gueye has announced a break from the Senegal national team after their 2026 FIFA World Cup exit.

The Teranga Lions were on the cusp of history but gave up a commanding 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at the end of 120 minutes to Belgium.

Gueye scored the winning goal for Senegal against Morocco in the controversial final of the 2025 AFCON.

The Villarreal man started the game for Senegal but was taken off, much to his dismay, after they doubled their lead.

According to Gueye in a post-match reaction, he stated he was fine physically, hence questioning his substitution.

He posted on social media that he would be taking time out of the national team.
