A former head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan’s powerful foreign intelligence service, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison by a court-martial.
The Pakistani army announced on Thursday, December 11, an exceptional sentence for a retired military officer, Faiz Hameed.
Hameed, who served during the term of the now-imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was found guilty of violating state secrets and abusing power.
Further charges were engaging in political activities and causing undue harm to individuals, the army’s communications department said in a statement.
