The game kicked off with both teams showcasing their experience and tactical acumen. It was, however, the visitors who broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Papaa, a former BA United captain, capitalized on a goalkeeping blunder to give New Bubuashie the lead. Determined to respond, Tuba Metro Stars ramped up the pressure, and their efforts paid off in the 35th minute. Fiifi, owner of the second-division side Sporting FC Accra, found the back of the net with a composed finish, bringing the game level at 1-1 just before halftime. The equalizer sparked wild celebrations among the home crowd, setting the stage for a competitive second half.

Both teams made significant substitutions during the break, hoping to gain the upper hand. The adjustments proved crucial for New Bubuashie Oldies as they regained the lead in the 65th minute. Kakara pounced on a defensive lapse, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper with finesse to secure the decisive goal.

Despite Tuba Metro Stars’ relentless attempts to equalize, the visitors held firm, displaying solid defensive organization and composure. The final whistle confirmed a hard-fought 2-1 victory for New Bubuashie Oldies, who celebrated their second consecutive win at Tuba Astro Turf.

This match not only highlighted the enduring skills of these retired footballers but also delivered a thrilling start to the year for fans of the Retired Football League.
