The Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MoSR) has admitted it owes the Black Queens of Ghana winning bonuses, as they claim.
Ghana’s Black Queens, currently in Morocco for a 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup playoff qualification spot, in a press release on Wednesday, August 12, stated that the MoSR is yet to fulfil its financial obligations to them.
According to the Black Queens, the arrears owed them are the following:
Outstanding bonuses, including the Egypt 2025 bonus
- WAFCON qualification bonus
- Group stage bonuses
- Outstanding per diem payments
- Better management support for players and officials
- Mental health and well-being support
Regarding the group stage bonuses, Mr Tanko Bagbara, the Public Relations Officer of the MoSR, admitted on Max FM’s Sports Pack show about the players yet to receive their winning bonuses.
Ghana has only won a single game at the ongoing 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON)—a 2-0 victory over tournament debutants Cape Verde. The team lost to Cameroon in their next game and drew with Mali to scrape through to the quarter-finals before being eliminated by another debutant, Malawi.
Payments for the winning bonuses are being processed as usual, differently to those of the per diems and any financial obligations. The MoSR is confident the players will soon receive their winning bonuses owed them.
The MoSR categorically stated in their official release in response to that of the Black Queens’ that no qualification bonus for the WAFCON was established, stressing that the Ghana Football Association was aware of that.
