The Archbishop of Cape Coast, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, has encouraged youth to be mindful of their social media usage, urging them to invest their time in productive activities instead of becoming engrossed in unnecessary trends.
Addressing thousands of young people at the Cape Coast Archdiocesan Youth Rally of the Roman Catholic Church in Assin Fosu, the Archbishop expressed concern over the addiction of many youths to social media platforms, particularly TikTok. He emphasized the importance of using social media for learning and obtaining valuable information rather than wasting time on frivolous trends.
The four-day 2024 Cape Coast Archdiocesan Youth Rally brought together approximately 2,000 youths from 11 Deaneries in the Central Region for prayer sessions and social activities.
During the event’s opening ceremony, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Assin South, emphasized the importance of fulfilling obligations to the church and country. He encouraged youths to recognize their talents and create opportunities for themselves and others, emphasizing that success is not solely achievable abroad.
In a later conversation with the Daily Graphic, the Archbishop elaborated on the detrimental effects of excessive noise exposure on youth health, attributing it as a contributing factor to various health issues they face.
