MAX ENTERTAINMENT: Ghana can’t fight foreign music – Shatta Wale

Date:

Afro-dancehall musician Shatta Wale says creatives cannot fight against the influx of foreign music in the country and doubt the “Play Ghana” initiative, which aims at promoting Ghanaian songs to the diasporans.

He believed that 10 percent of foreign music would still overshadow the whole of Ghana.

The “Melissa” hitmaker, in an X post yesterday to add his voice to the initiative, which has gathered lots of controversies on social media, noted that the enmity among Ghanaian musicians was rather hindering the progress of the music industry.

“I just woke up to tell you, you can’t fight foreign music. A country with so much jealousy when it’s not them in the frontline,” he wrote.

It will be recalled that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, in collaboration with the Creative Arts Agency and some stakeholders in the Ghanaian music industry, launched the Play Ghana initiative on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

This initiative aims to promote Ghanaian music across the country ahead of the Christmas ‘detty December’ activities, where there is an influx of diasporans spending their holidays in Ghana.

Many musicians advocated for disc jockeys and individuals to prioritize Ghanaian music to promote the country’s rich culture while showcasing their talents to potential investors.
