JUST IN: Ghana Declares April 18 & 21 Public Holidays for Easter 2025

Date:

The Ministry of the Interior has declared Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, as Easter 2025 public holidays across Ghana. The announcement marks Good Friday and Easter Monday, key dates in the Christian calendar, as statutory holidays nationwide.

In a statement released on Monday, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak confirmed the official designation of these days to allow citizens to observe the Easter festivities appropriately.

Good Friday, observed on April 18, commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and is recognized globally as a day of prayer, reflection, and church services. Easter Monday, falling on April 21, follows Easter Sunday, which celebrates the resurrection of Christ. In Ghana, it is commonly celebrated with family gatherings, picnics, and community events.

The Interior Ministry urged citizens to mark Easter 2025 public holidays in line with Ghanaian laws and cultural practices. “The public is hereby reminded to observe these holidays in accordance with national laws and appropriate customs,” the statement emphasized.

Easter remains one of the most widely celebrated holidays in Ghana, with people traveling to their hometowns or engaging in religious and social events. Authorities are encouraging all Ghanaians to prioritize safety, responsibility, and mutual respect throughout the long weekend.
