FIFA Women’s World Cup: Super Falcons could boycott opening match

Date:

The Super Falcons are considering boycotting their opening match at the Women’s World Cup in Melbourne later this month after learning they won’t receive tournament match bonuses from the Nigeria Football Federation.

According to reports, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, led by ace Barcelona Femeni striker Asisat Oshoala, are prepared to walk out of their opening match against Canada on July 21.

The Nigerian Federation brought this up following FIFA’s recent declaration that each player in the group stage will receive $30,000.

Nigeria’s three Group B matches—against Canada, the Matildas, and Ireland—were each to receive a separate payment for the match bonuses.

Randy Waldrum‘s recent accusations that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is failing to meet the needs of his players in two podcasts may also result in his dismissal before the game even starts.
