The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected power to Baba Yara Stadium due to an outstanding GH¢130,000 debt, which remains unpaid despite multiple reminders, according to Reports.
ECG insists power will only be restored once the full amount is settled. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority (NSA) have yet to address the issue.
In November 2024, the NSA announced the completion of renovation works at the stadium. However, the previous government faced criticism after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned the venue from hosting Black Stars’ AFCON qualifiers.
Currently, Baba Yara Stadium remains ineligible for CAF and FIFA-sanctioned matches.
