Be measured in your expectations of Akufo-Addo’s second-term – Chief of Staff to Ghanaians

Date:

The Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Opare has appealed to Ghanaians to be measured in their expectations of the Akufo-Addo second-term administration.

Madam Frema Opare says the devastating effect of the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the president’s plans and programmes.

Her comments come on the back of the #FixTheCountry campaign which is aimed at getting the government to address the many challenges facing the country.

Speaking at the second edition of the Public Relations Summit of all PROs of Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and SOEs in Accra, Madam Frema Opare said the government of Nana Akufo-Addo is already fixing the country.

“I want to take this opportunity to appeal to Ghanaians that all expectations on a COVID-19 environment should be very measured. Expectations from your organizations and the expectations of the public for the state must be measured because you only have to turn on the TV and you will see the devastation that COVID-19 has brought to even giant countries.”

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta had earlier urged Ghanaians to join the government in fixing the challenges facing the country together.

According to him, the development of the country is the collective responsibility of all Ghanaians.

“In the coming days, we will move swiftly to address the issues that #FixTheCountry have raised. First, I am working with the Minister for Water and Sanitation to immediately ensure potable water to areas of critical need. Secondly, I am working with the Ministers of Roads and Highways, Transport and Interior to address congestion along the major highways. Thirdly, we are fast-tracking the implementation of the $200 million jobs and skills programme and economic transformation programme to enhance job creation significantly.”

“Fourth, starting this month, we are rolling out over eight additional interventions under the GhanaCARES Obatanpa programme and these will be in the health, agriculture, trade, tourism, digitisation, science and technology, housing and financial service sectors. Fifth, by the end of July, we will have a new development bank capitalised with over $500 million that will provide long term whole financing and not retail, as happened in the past, to the private sector through commercial banks and non-bank financial institutions such as venture capital companies for SMEs, to ensure financing to the youth. So let us rise up and build together and let us #FIXTOGETHER,” he said at a press conference on Sunday, May 9, 2021.
