Former Asante Kotoko defender Charles Boateng remains optimistic about his former club’s ability to bounce back from their current struggles under the guidance of coach Prosper Ogum, despite recent poor form.
Kotoko, under Ogum’s leadership, has encountered significant challenges, managing to secure only one league victory in 2024. This has strained relations between the management and fans, with supporters disrupting a recent training session to demand Ogum’s removal.
Despite a recent 2-0 defeat to Dawu, Boateng, who played for the Porcupine Warriors in the 2008/9 season, believes Kotoko showed promising signs, indicating a positive trajectory for the team. “Even though they lost to Dawu, their performance on the day showed determination and purpose,” Boateng stated in an interview with max.com.gh.
Boateng voiced his disagreement with critics of Ogum’s coaching performance, asserting that the team’s challenges are temporary setbacks rather than a reflection of the coach’s abilities.
“So whoever condemns his performance as a coach, I will strongly disagree with that person,” Boateng remarked. “It’s rather unfortunate that things haven’t gone the way they wanted it.”
Kotoko will now turn their attention to overcoming their poor form as they prepare to face league leaders FC Samartex.
