Accept musicians for political endorsement – Debwoy Afriqa

Date:

Fast-rising rapper Emmanuel Yaw Amissah, known by his stage name Debwoy Afriqa, has called on Ghanaians to understand the business side of music and fully embrace musicians who endorse political parties.

According to him, there’s nothing wrong with political endorsement, as it also serves as a means for musicians to gain money from their crafts.

Speaking exclusively on Max Drive in Accra on Tuesday, Debwoy Afriqa expressed concern about how some Ghanaians complain about musicians who rally around some political candidates during campaigns.

He noted that using music in promoting political parties and their presidential candidates was a means for musicians to earn from their sweats.

The “Ohia” hitmaker said the proceeds from the political endorsement were mostly used to invest in their crafts for their music to break boundaries.

“This is pure business because if you’re being employed, you can’t tell me that your boss is a staunch supporter of NDC or NPP, so you will not work for him or her. Ghanaians should understand that this is strictly business and musicians should not be tagged or identified with a particular party because of endorsement,” he stated.

Debwoy Afriqa also expressed readiness to endorse any political party that wanted to use his music to support its campaign.

“I don’t have any problem with that. Ghanaians will only talk for days, and everything will normalize. Recently I saw my brother King Paluta being dragged for quite a number of days for endorsing a particular party. OliveTheBoy was also dragged from another side for promoting a particular party with his music. For me, Ghana will just talk about me for a week, and everything will be back to normal,” he added.

The Shydem Entertainment signee’s musical style is a fusion of highlife, Amapiano, and Afrobeats, creating a unique sound that resonates locally and has the potential for global recognition.

He is currently making waves in the music scene with his latest single, “Dangote.”
