Ampem Darkoa Ladies Football Club have finally secured a passage to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The Ghanaian champions defeated Nigeria’s Edo Queens in a 30-minute match in Cairo, Egypt on Thursday afternoon.
Ampem Darkoa managed a 1-0 victory over the Nigerian champions in a tightly contested game.
Why a 30-minute match?
CAF upheld a protest by Ampem Darkoa following their 4-1 penalty shootout loss to Edo Queens in the WAFU Zone B qualifiers in Ougadougo, Burkina Faso on September 5, 2026.
The game was supposed to head into extra time after the 2-2 regular-time result, but officials instructed against the regulations to play a penalty shootout.
CAF called for the game to be continued by playing the extra time and penalties in the event of a stalemate.
Who are the opponents of Ampem Darkoa?
The Bono-based side will take on AS FAR, USFAS Bamako of Mali, and the Kawempe Muslim Ladies of Uganda in Group B of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The Champions League is scheduled to start from November 1 to 15. The winner of the competition will represent the continent of Africa at the 2026 FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, set to happen in the United States of America.
