The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has indefinitely suspended the assistant referee of the Matchday 3 NPFL game after a controversial decision in the match between Doma United and Enyimba International.
In an official letter, the Nigeria Football Federation sanctioned Adamu for his role as Assistant Referee 1.
According to the suspension letter, he failed to correctly apply the offside guidelines and the ‘wait and see’ protocol. His decision led to what is presumed to be a valid goal being disallowed.
The suspension is with immediate effect. The Jigawa-based match official has now been suspended from all league and football-related activities pending a further review of the incident.
The letter reads, “In view of the serious nature of one of the decisions you took as Assistant Referee 1 in the matchday two encounter involving Doma United FC and Enyimba International FC wherein you failed to observe offside situational guidelines and the wait-and-see protocol, resulting in cancellation of a validly scored goal by one of the teams, I am directed to suspend you indefinitely from the League and other Refereeing activities.
Your action did not only affect the scoreline and outcome of the match, it brought Refereeing and the game in Nigeria into disrepute.
In the light of this, the Refereeing Development Committee resolved that you should be stepped-down, and thus delisted from the 2026/2027 list of NPFL Referees and Assistant Referees.”
