The opening round of Group C in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations delivered on all fronts.

The Copper Queens of Zambia kicked off their campaign in the best way possible, securing a resounding 6-0 victory at the Rabat Olympic Stadium against Egypt.

In their WAFCON debut, Malawi stunned Nigeria 3-2 at City Stadium courtesy of the Chawinga sisters.

Temwa Chawinga opened the scoring in the 75th minute before Tabitha doubled the lead in the 79th.

Nigeria pulled one back through Rasheedat Ajibade in the 90+2nd minute, but time was running out.

Temwa Chawinga struck again in the 90+5th, making it 3-1 for Malawi. Nigeria scored once more in the 90+9th through Uchenna Kanu, but it wasn’t enough.
