Mpox on the RISE in Ghana

Date:

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 10 new cases of mpox, bringing the country’s total number of infections to 565 as of September 18.

The latest figure continues a steady increase in reported cases in recent weeks.

On September 1, the GHS recorded 27 new infections, which raised the national tally to 494.

That number climbed to 519 on September 11 after 25 additional cases were confirmed.

Health experts explain that Mpox spreads mainly through close contact with someone who is infected. Common symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pains, swollen lymph nodes and a rash.

The Service has advised the public to observe good hygiene practices and to report promptly to the nearest health facility if they experience any of the symptoms.
