Appietus Pledges Industry Support to Political Candidates to Revamp GHAMRO

Date:

Famous music producer Appiah Dankwah, known in the industry as Appietus, has promised the support of music enthusiasts to any presidential candidate willing to revamp the Ghana Music Right Organisation (GHAMRO) for musicians and producers to gain their necessary royalties.

He condemned the current royalty payout system and wanted it to be revamped with immediate effect.

Speaking in an interview with Max Morning Show in Accra on Monday, the sound engineer indicated that GHAMRO did not have the needed apps and underscored the need for politicians to prioritise the welfare of musicians and musical producers in their manifestos.

“We only have GHAMRO in Ghana but the system is not working; it is not efficient. “It will take one of the presidential candidates to say, ‘I will do this for musicians, and the president will get lots of votes from music followers,” he stated.

Appietus lamented that the royalty system in the country needed technology advancement and charged sound engineers who are young in the system to take advantage of other royalty collective systems to sign 50-50 deals with musicians they produced.

That, he noted, was the surest way for young producers to break even and make money from their sweat.
