BECE Malpractices: GHS20, 10, 5, for Answers

Date:

The West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) has revealed shocking amounts some students were charged for support during the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Exams.

Provisional results released on Saturday, August 23, 2025, indicated 177 of the 603,328 candidates who sat for the examination have been cancelled.

The alarming increase in malpractices during the examination has caused a major concern for WAEC, according to the Head of Public Affairs, John Karpi.

In an interview on GTV on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Mr Kapi disclosed the absurd amount charged by certain unscrupulous individuals to enable some candidates to cheat.

“For BECE I am told, again, some of the things happen, but we haven’t had concrete evidence. Regardless, people send reports to us that as candidates walk in, they are supposed to pay a token of GHS20, while some are paying GHS10 per candidate. Others are taking as low as GHS5 to assist them in the examination hall,” said Mr Karpi.

Though these are mere speculations and wild allegations, WAEC would undoubtedly devise more stringent measures to curb malpractices in subsequent years.
