GHALCA Disappointed by NSA Stadium Change

Date:

The Administrative Manager of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Mr Oduro Nyarko, has expressed disappointment in the National Sports Authority (NSA).

With just a day to the kickoff of the 2025 GHALCA Top Four, the NSA announced that the Accra Sports Stadium could no longer host the competition.

The tournament, which is expected to climax on Sunday, August 24, 2025, will now be hosted by the University of Ghana Stadium.

Reacting to the news on Max FM’s Sports Pack show, Mr Oduro Sarfo disclosed there had been an understanding with the NSA regarding the Accra Sports Stadium hosting the tournament before the sudden change of venue.

“We have been engaging the NSA from the very beginning, and they even gave us an official letter approving the Accra Sports Stadium for the Top 4 games,” he said.

“Out of the blue, my chairman informed me that the Director General of the NSA now says we cannot use the stadium because of the upcoming Black Stars game. Yet, the NSA was fully aware from the onset of Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Mali,” he continued to Nana Darkwa Gyasi.

GHALCA are left with no other option than to comply, hosting the competition at the University of Ghana Stadium.

NSA boss Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah shared in a statement that a post analysis of the pitch conducted at the end of the Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Cup depicted it being unwise to host the competition:

The Ghalca Top 4 tournament has been moved to the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.

This follows an update report from the pitch maintenance consultant Green Grass Technology who has advised that the only Caf/FIFA approved stadium in Ghana should be preserved solely for the Black Stars World Cup qualifier on 8th September.

The Black Stars are expected to begin camping in Accra on 31st August ahead of their World Cup qualifiers trip away to Chad on 4th Augest.

The revised camping schedule of the Black Stars means that the date of local training would be too close to the end of the Ghalca Top 4 tournament and this might affect the recovery of the pitch.

The recommendations were made to the National Sports Authority by Green Grass Technology following a routine post match pitch inspection after the Homowo Cup Final on Sunday 17 August.

The Ghalca Top 4 which precedes the commencement of the Ghana Premier season will now kick off on Wednesday 20thAugust at the UG Legon stadium in Accra.
