DVLA Goes Digital: Sticker-Only ‘Drive from Port’ Numbers Start August 1

Date:

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced that, effective August 1, 2025, it will stop issuing aluminum ‘Drive from Port’ (DP) number plates at the country’s ports.

This marks a full shift to a digital system, with DP stickers replacing metal plates at all entry points, including the Tema and Takoradi ports. The rollout follows a successful pilot at both locations.

The initiative is part of DVLA’s broader efforts to improve security, efficiency, and convenience in its service delivery to vehicle importers and the public.

To enhance the system’s safety, DVLA is partnering with the State Insurance Company (SIC) to ensure every vehicle issued with a DP sticker is insured before exiting the port.

“This move is aimed at making DVLA services secure and efficient for our clients,” a statement read, encouraging public cooperation for a smooth transition.

DVLA believes the reform will simplify port vehicle processing and support its ongoing digitisation drive.
