The High Court in Amasaman has refused a bail request filed on behalf of convicted evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, pending the outcome of her appeal.
Despite the setback, her legal team remains resolute. Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, July 15, lawyer Dr. Bernard Kofi Asamoah confirmed the court’s decision but stressed that the legal battle is far from over.
“We sought bail pending appeal, but the court declined. However, it has ordered the Circuit Court to submit all relevant documents to facilitate the appeal. We’ll continue to pursue every legal option,” he stated.
The application followed Agradaa’s 15-year custodial sentence handed down by the Accra Circuit Court on July 3, after she was found guilty of defrauding by false pretences and engaging in charlatanic advertisement. The verdict was delivered by Justice Evelyn Asamoah.
Agradaa’s lawyers argue that the trial was tainted by procedural irregularities and judicial bias, describing the sentence as excessive and unjust. A formal appeal was filed on July 7 by lead counsel Richard Asare Baffour, seeking to overturn both the conviction and sentence.
While the former fetish priestess remains in custody, her defence team insists they will exhaust all legal avenues to secure justice.
