An eight-year-old boy of the Kubugu community in the Mamprugu Moagduri District of the North East Region has died after a heavy downpour.
The deceased, identified as Adam Mujaheed, drowned after accidentally falling into an abandoned brick-making pit filled with rainwater while playing with friends after school.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) managed to pull the child out of the pit but was pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby clinic.
The North East Regional Director of NADMO, Alhaji Tahiru Rafiu, has revealed the child’s body has been handed over to the family to carry out their Islamic customs.
Adam’s mother, who collapsed after receiving news of his death, is responding to treatment.
