NSA Demands Nkawkaw Stadium Documentation

Date:

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA),Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has officially requested legal documentation and approvals related to ongoing construction works at the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium.

This comes after a decision to suspend unauthorised activities until all regulatory conditions are satisfied.

The move follows a high-level engagement between the NSA and Hon. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi, who had earlier initiated work on the stadium through private funding.

Speaking on the matter, NSA official Yaw Ampofo clarified that construction can resume immediately once all statutory construction guidelines and approvals are in place.

In 2020, the NSA and the Middle Belt Development Authority (MBA) commissioned Farahdel Ghana Ltd to redevelop the Nkawkaw Stadium into a modern, multi-purpose facility. However, the project stalled due to funding constraints.

In early 2025, Hon. Bryan Acheampong approached the MBA with an offer to financially support a scaled-down version of the project, designed as a temporary facility to serve as the home ground for Okwahu United in the upcoming football season.

Although well-intentioned, the intervention bypassed formal communication with the NSA, the rightful managers of the stadium. In May 2025, Farahdel Ghana Ltd resumed construction based on a new model proposed by the MP, triggering media attention and public concern due to the lack of official clearance.

In response, the NSA dispatched a team led by its Estates Manager and Chief Operating Officer to conduct a fact-finding mission at the site. Upon receiving the report on June 8, 2025, the Director General contacted Hon. Acheampong and advised a temporary halt to the project pending full compliance with legal and regulatory processes.

A stakeholder briefing was subsequently held on June 16, 2025, at the stadium site. The meeting clarified the scope of the revised project, outlined the necessary approvals, and reaffirmed the need for due process. Present at the meeting were representatives from the local community, Eastern Regional officials, and national stakeholders.

The NSA is expected to submit a comprehensive report to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddi Adams, for further action.
